After a few members of Big Thief devoted themselves to their solo projects last year, the indiefolk rockers from Brooklyn, New York are finally doing things together again in 2019.
"U. F.O. F." is the name of the quartet's new third album, the follow-up to "Masterpiece" (2016) and "Capacity" (2017).
As with both predecessors, Adrianne Lenker (vocals and guitar), Buck Meek (guitar), bassist Max Oleartchik and drummer James Krivchenia worked together with producer Dom Monks.
For the recording, they went to the rustic Bear Creek Studio, a converted barn near Seattle. Big Thief played all the songs on "U. F.O. F." completely live. As a result, some of the songs evolved in the studio, and a few were written entirely there.
The result has become a largely dark-melancholic, enigmatic album, partly esoteric and meditative.
How "U. F.O. F." sounds, the band already revealed with the title track.
Back from the sabbatical and in the luggage another whole piece. Nothing else would have been expected from Big Thief.
