The fact that guitarist Bill Frisell can make his instrument sound like an orchestra has often been read and heard. His new album "Orchestras" now documents two inspired concerts that Frisell gave with his long-standing trio with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston and two orchestras, the almost 60-piece Brussels Philharmonic and the 11-piece Umbria Jazz Orchestra. The works performed at both concerts were arranged by none other than the now 86-year-old legendary Michael Gibbs, with whom Frisell has worked on several occasions.
