Description
Product Description "ENTER" is the highly anticipated initial release from Chapel Hill, NC based label Unschooled Records. The CD is a well thought-out compilation of 14 tracks from electronic musicians representing an intersection in style, geography and time. Drawing on the talents of 12 musicians from 5 countries, ENTER provides the listener with an experience that is simultaneously diverse and comforting. Tracks that run the gamut in structure and complexity: From Decomposure’s "Matches", an explosive seduction that consists entirely of samples of the artist lighting matches, to internet experimental notable doofgoblin’s angst-tinged commercial debut "Frazed". Solo projects from Decomposure, doofgoblin, and Plan 29 will be released on Unschooled by October 2003 Review "3:02 Minutes of brilliantly twitchy experimental electronica" -- Gods of Music review of Matches by James"Simplicity has never sounded so chaotic." -- Raw42 on doofgoblin"abstract sounds and themes; doofgoblin gives it enough groove to bob your head! A tricky combination that doofgoblin executes well!" -- R. Flanagan, ::breed:: From the Artist "I coexist with my music, that is, I let it do its thing and it lets me do mine. To respect the machine's behavior, its life, is most important. With a little understanding and nudging, we begin to speak. I never want to disrespect the sounds' intentions. The noises give me ideas; if the noises are good they will make clear to me where the piece is going. Sound amuses me...it makes me laugh, nonrepresentational sound and sound association can be pure entertainment, comedy, tragedy, and terror, and often at once. I make music that I would like to listen to. When I sit back and can really dig on a track, that excites me." John Gulino (doofgoblin) About the Artist DECOMPOSURE - Decomposure further challenges the incumbency of modern music in its entirety. As Jonathan Swift so aptly stated, "The incumbent lieth at the mercy of his patron" More than music, Decomposure creates a sonic deconstruction of the art process, addressing the contrast of the often laborious, quiet and painstaking process of art creation to the perceived emotional tone of its end result. The structure of the sound itself studies the relationship of percussion to music and silence. DOOFGOBLIN - Graduating from school he moved to Oakland, California to work with Vaccination Records (home to Idiot Flesh and other art-rockers) and Ralph America (The Residents label of sorts.) Locked in his room at night recording at an obsessive pace, he turned to intense software synthesis programs that began to detract from his usual guitar/vocal/microphone effects methodology. While enjoying the musical community on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) someone heard Gulino’s electronic music and invited him to share it with an online group of like-minded individuals. "Doofgoblin," the handle that he adopted that fateful evening, stuck. See more

I saw announcements for this CD pop up at several of my favorite sites over the past week, so I decided to check it out. Went to the label's website... and they had a flash music player with a bunch of samples. It sounded pretty tempting, so I picked up a copy. It's a new label and these are some really fresh tunes! It's all electronic and instrumental, so if you don't like the sound of that I wouldn't bother, but the CD has so many different styles and the best part is - they're not all trying to sound like Aphex Twin! There are 14 tracks and very few total dogs (about 3 in my book) but there are 4 KILLER songs; Matches (Decomposure), I am watching you (Bit Crusher), Frazed (Dooofgoblin) and Interlude (1st Class Lounge). All in all, a great deal for some outstanding new music - several of the musicians with the best tracks have full length CDs coming out this summer - I'll be back!
